Beware of VSO
Heads-up from Tom Kovach:
A new group has sprung up across the United States. This group pretends to help veterans, but they are really helping themselves. (And, the money that they do use to “help” veterans seems to be done in the fashion of the “community organizing” that has already done great damage to our country.)The group is named the Veterans Service Organization. Conveniently, that name “just happens” to match the generic category used by the IRS and the FEC to describe a wide range of legitimate groups (e.g.: American Legion, VFW, DAV, etc.). Thus, their existence is theoretically “legal”, but certainly is not “moral”.Here in the Nashville area, one member of our Rolling Thunder organization confronted a VSO representative in a shopping mall. That person showed a “letter of support” from Operation Stand-down — a legitimate organization that helps homeless veterans. Unfortunately for the scammer, our guy happens to work for Operation Stand-down! The information was reported, and OSD has now issued a notice that any such letter is a forgery!Another ironic fact about this group is that most shopping malls stopped allowing solicitation at least a dozen years ago. So, why is this particular group being allowed to solicit funds in shopping malls across the country? Could it be that someone has done some “community organizing” to grease them through??Please forward this info to all of your friends, and ask them to not give money to VSO.Thank you.Tom Kovach
